What venus is

venus is a native desktop terminal, SSH/SFTP client, and developer workspace. It gives you a modern, keyboard-first command-line environment — plus a code editor, Git, a task runner, project search, Docker, an API client, and a database explorer, and tools for running across a fleet of hosts: run a command across a whole group of SSH hosts, a remote resource dashboard, and a command scheduler. These work the same on your own machine and on the remote servers you manage — as a native Tauri desktop app, with no bundled Chromium.

venus runs on macOS (Apple Silicon, requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or later), Windows (10/11, 64-bit), and Linux (x86-64) — the Windows and Linux builds are recent betas. A mobile companion focused on SSH and SFTP is planned for later.

What makes it different

• Native performance. venus is built on Tauri, Rust, React, and xterm.js — a native desktop app with no bundled Chromium runtime, so it starts fast and stays responsive.
• Local-first by default. Your hosts, settings, snippets, and workspaces live on your machine. venus doesn't collect feature-use telemetry or terminal content; our service records limited trial/license-check events and aggregate download counts (see the Privacy Policy). Optional Pro cloud sync uploads only encrypted copies — the server stores ciphertext it can't decrypt, retaining authentication metadata, while licensing uses separate license/trial records.
• Secrets stay protected. SSH passwords and key passphrases are stored in your operating system's secure credential store (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or the Linux Secret Service). The optional encrypted vault (Argon2id + XChaCha20-Poly1305) encrypts your saved host profiles at rest.
• Thoughtful UX. A dual-pane SFTP browser, reusable command snippets, a command palette, and session restore keep your work flowing.
