What venus is

venus is a native desktop terminal and SSH/SFTP client. It gives you a modern, keyboard-first command-line environment for working on your own machine and on the remote servers you manage — without the weight and lag that plague browser-based terminal apps.

Today venus runs on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 12 and later). Windows and Linux are coming soon, and a mobile companion focused on SSH and SFTP is planned for later.

venus is built for the people who spend their days in a terminal: software engineers, platform and DevOps teams, sysadmins, and anyone who keeps a set of hosts, snippets, and workflows close at hand. What makes it different

• Native performance. venus is built on Tauri, Rust, React, and xterm.js, so it starts fast and stays responsive — no bundled Chromium runtime like an Electron app.
• Local-first and private. Your hosts, settings, snippets, and workspaces stay on your machine. venus ships with no usage analytics and no telemetry.
• Secrets stay protected. SSH passwords and key passphrases are stored in the macOS Keychain or an encrypted vault (Argon2id + XChaCha20-Poly1305).
• Thoughtful UX. A dual-pane SFTP browser, reusable command snippets, a command palette, and session restore keep your work flowing.
